Miscellaneous and mostly useless info about mythtaken.net
The name "mythtaken" comes from a throw away line in a season 4 episode of buffy the vampire slayer:
prof walsh: we thought you were a myth
buffy: well, you were mythtaken
I just loved the word, and the pun is so silly and so well delivered it makes me giggle every time. I can't say I'm a huge fan of SMG but the girl has got a sense of comic timing.
I registered mythtaken.co.uk in a strange fit of compulsive spending at the beginning of November 2002 with lycos. I probably shouldn't have - nobody ever visits my sites. But I was getting fed up with my port5.com site, which, although being free, having no ads, supporting cgi and php and many other lovely things, had a server downtime frequency that was, well, frequent. And being single and relatively boring, I'm frustrated enough as it is without these extra hassles. When my year of lycos hosting was up, I switched to netrillium, who are cheaper and give you much more functionality for your money, so yay them. Then in 2006 lycos cocked up and let the domain expire without telling me, thus I registered mythtaken.net with netrillium and here we are.
Originally I had one main site here, with some fanlistings housed on the domain. In June 2003 I decided to split my blog and the content into two separate sites on the domain and have mythtaken.co.uk as a collective. But then in November '04 I woke up and I hated everything, so I took it all back to the beginning again. I'm fickle like that.
I struggle with some vague, unpolished sense of aesthetics and paint shop pro 7 (and photoshop) to make my own graphics. Please don't steal them. I'd be flattered but, you know, flattery will get you nowhere.
Most of the coding on the site is done by hand. I do have an old copy of microsoft frontpage but I mostly use that for reference - it has an annoying habit of inserting copious amounts of useless code everywhere if you don't keep your eye on it. Feel free to ask me anything about the coding on the site, I'll do my best to help you, but bear in mind that although I may display many traits of geekdom, I'm not particularly clever.
