Obligatory Christmas Post
Merry Christmas everyone! Wishing you peace, joy and mince pies (or whatever it is you'd rather have in place of mince pies).

In which Liz finally updates
Right, well, what have I been up to lately? Much in the manner of Daisy from
Spaced I've been as inactive as possible in order to really get into the head of someone who's unemployed, not just vocationally but cerebrally. Does enforced passivity breed laziness? I think I need to do a little more research. Meanwhile, my job hunting attempts remain hindered by my particular knack for self-sabotage and obsessive compulsive navel-gazing. But that's not what I brought you here to talk about.
(Welcome, by the way. I have painted the site orange in the hope that it will inspire me to pump a bit of life back into it, and have resolved to update the blog on a monthly basis. I grow weary of posts that start "I haven't blogged in ages...")
I've been neglecting the cinema somewhat - managing to see only the gorgeous
Finding Neverland* and the faintly underwhelming
After the Sunset in the past few weeks. I have, however, been experimenting with
online DVD rental and the joys of month-long free trials. Thus I have been distracting myself rather too successfully with all the films I've been meaning to watch for ages but just never got around to.
One film I'm not too sure about is
The Polar Express. I had thought that it was the sickening blither about "the true meaning of Christmas" that put me off the trailer, but now I have discovered there may be
another reason.
I have a new fandom! JJ Abrams's
Lost, which I'm enjoying very much. At any rate it's going a little way to filling the gaping hole left by the absence of new Joss Whedon productions (especially since they've pushed back releasing
Serenity until September 2005 - I can't wait that long for heaven's sake!) and Lord of the Rings films (although I still have the extended version of RotK to look forward to next week), and I find myself trawling the net for deserted island
slash. Speaking of fan fiction, if mocking tragically clueless Mary-Sue authors (or suethors) is your thing, then I heartily recommend the livejournal community "heave_ho", where you can giggle your false eye out at
The Fifty Worst Lines in the Caribbean.
Finally, here at mythtaken, I've added a few new LotR avatars/icons, jettisoned some of the older, crapper avatars and, for reasons too convoluted and boring to go into here, closed the Spaced fanlisting (not without some disappointment, mind you - it was the first fanlisting I ever made, way back in October 2002).
And now (*looks at watch and cringes*), to bed.

Filmed prior to Pirates of the Caribbean
, it's fun to see little hints of the future Captain Jack emerging as Johnny Depp's Barrie plays at pirates. It also has a couple of actors in common with PotC (Mackenzie Crook and Angus Barnett) and I wonder whether Depp had any hand in their casting, certainly it's well publicised that he recommended Freddie Highmore for the role of Charlie in the upcoming Charlie & the Chocolate Factory after starring with him in this.
