Why I love the internet reason #162

Against my better judgement I spent most of yesterday (this is what I get for checking [info]metafandom, being completely in the dark about what everyone was suddenly going off on one about, and deciding to check fandom_wank for clues) reading [info]charlottelennox's well written and exhaustively researched "unauthorised fandom biography" of Msscribe, sockpuppeteer extraordinaire. I've never been a part of the Harry Potter fandom (although even I had heard of the Big Name Fan Cassandra Claire and the time her many fans donated several thousand dollars to replace her stolen laptop, which is a part of this story), in fact - being an inveterate lurker - I've never really been a part of any fandom, but this was a bizarrely fascinating read about fandom dynamics and what some people are willing to do for attention.

Essentially Msscribe played a giant RPG with the rest of HP fandom on LiveJournal, except she was the only one who knew it was fiction.
